It is well known in Cameroon that parents are always more preoccupied with meeting the different needs of their children than getting to know important details about them. Educate a Child in Africa, Inc. is bridging the gap between parents and their children through its ‘Know Your Children’ initiative. This is a fun game show between children and their parents/guardians. The goal of this initiative is to assuage the different frictions that exist within families and communities and identify the most essential needs of children.

Educate a Child in Africa, Inc. has been implementing ‘Know Your Children’ in Wotutu village of Buea, Cameroon. On Tuesday the 2nd of August 2016, an ECA team comprising of staff and interns from the University of Buea went round the village to sensitize the parents about the activity. Most of the parents were very excited and consented to be involved in the fun game show between them and their children.

On Tuesday and Wednesday the 9th and 10th of August, the team returned to the families who welcomed the initiative to implement the game. There was plenty of fun in the different homes as the parents struggled to answer the questions about their children. Of the several questions asked, most of them could not give accurate answers about their children’s blood group, what they aspire to become in future, and their actual birth date. Some of the parents were surprised that they barely know their children. They applauded the initiative and resolved to bond more with their household.
