Educate a Child in Africa, Inc. began implementing the ‘Know Your Children’ Initiative in Livanda Village, Fako Division, the South West Region of Cameroon. On Wednesday the 3rd of August 2016, a team from Educate a Child in Africa, Inc. visited different families in their homes around the village to sensitize them about the activity.

On Tuesday the 16th and Wednesday the 17th of August 2016, the ECA team implemented ‘Know Your Children’ in the homes that had been contacted. The children were given the opportunity to test their parents’ knowledge about them by asking a wide range of questions. Most of the parents could quickly answer questions about the subjects their children excel in but they did not know the names of their kids’ class teachers. Some parents had no idea if their children possessed any talent while almost all the parents did not know what makes their children happy or sad.

All the parents were surprised that they had very limited knowledge about their children. The families were very cooperative throughout the exercise and reechoed their appreciation and gratitude as the team moved from home to home. Like all the other parents, Mba Ernestine remarked that ‘Know Your Children’ has served as an eye opener to her and she promised to draw close to her children.
