About this Event
The United Nations declared 2014 as the International year of small Island Developing States (SIDS). It is within this context that Educate a Child in Africa (ECA) joined the Dynamic Ladies of Bobende (DEMOHCLEY) to commemorate the 2014 World Environment Day under the theme “Raise your Voices, Not the Sea Level”.
The first stop was a symbolic tree planting exercise with some primary school pupils. After that, the ECA team joined the Dynamic Ladies of Bobende along the entrance to Limbe, located in the South West Region of Cameroon. The entrance to the West Coast of Limbe is a stretch of about six kilometers of road. About 80 trees were planted on both sides of the road by the ECA team and the DEMOHCLEY women. It is worth mentioning that some other Organizations and individuals present took part in the tree planting exercise.
The participants had the opportunity to learn about the significance of Small Island States and the importance of protecting them in the different presentations that preceded the tree planting exercise. ECA recognizes the fact that women are the force of change in every society. The commemoration of World Environment Day was an opportunity to partner with DEMOHCLEY and take a small step towards combating climate change.
